Emma Watson Is Our New Belle! ‘Harry Potter’ Star Confirms She’s Joining Disney’s Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’ — and Her Reaction Is Everything

The Wizarding World is meeting the House of Mouse, and we are officially swooning.

After months of whispers and “what-ifs,” it’s official: Emma Watson is our new Belle! The Harry Potter alum has signed on to star in Disney’s highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Beauty and the Beast, and the internet is already in a total meltdown.

The news, first reported by TheWrap, confirms that Disney is continuing its winning streak of turning animated classics into live-action masterpieces. Following the success of Maleficent and the buzz surrounding the upcoming Cinderella, the studio is pulling out all the stops for this musical fairy tale.

But it was Emma’s personal announcement on Facebook that really sent fans into a frenzy.

“I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast!” Emma wrote to her millions of followers.

The actress, who grew up in the spotlight as Hermione Granger, got candid about how much the role means to her.

“It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There,'” she shared. “My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting.”

She even teased that she’s already preparing for the iconic musical numbers, adding, “Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx.”

The casting feels like a match made in heaven for the outspoken feminist and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Much like Hermione, Belle is defined by her love of books, her fierce intellect, and her refusal to settle for a “provincial life.”

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) are already pointing out the similarities. “Hermione to Belle is the most logical career path in history,” one fan joked in a viral post.

This project also marks a special reunion for Emma. The film’s screenwriter is Stephen Chbosky, who directed her in the critically acclaimed The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

At the helm is director Bill Condon, the man behind Twilight: Breaking Dawn and Dreamgirls, ensuring the film has the award-winning pedigree Disney is known for.

Interestingly, this isn’t Emma’s first brush with the rose. She was previously attached to a Warner Bros. version of the story with director Guillermo del Toro, but that project eventually stalled.

Now that she’s officially a Disney Princess, the only question remains: Who will play her Beast?

Social media is already flooded with fan-casting theories, ranging from heartthrobs to rugged character actors. Whoever it is, they’ll have to keep up with a leading lady who is clearly head-over-heels for this project.

As Disney continues to assemble its “stacked” cast—joining the ranks of recent hires like Cate Blanchett and Bill Murray for other live-action reboots—Beauty and the Beast is quickly becoming the most talked-about movie on the horizon.
