Seth Rogen Sets the Record Straight: Why Emma Watson Really Left the Set of ‘This Is the End’

Seth Rogen is ready to bury the hatchet—and the rumors—once and for all.

The actor and director took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night to address a long-standing Hollywood urban legend: that Emma Watson “stormed off” the set of his apocalyptic comedy, This Is the End.

In a candid, heartfelt message shared via a Notes app screenshot, Rogen clarified that the Harry Potter alum was anything but unprofessional. In fact, he’s taking the blame for the communication breakdown that led to her exit from a specific scene.

“Emma Watson did not ‘storm off the set’ and it’s shitty that the perception is that she did,” Rogen wrote to his millions of followers.

The moment in question involved a high-concept, raunchy scene featuring a leather-clad Channing Tatum as a “gimp” and Danny McBride as a cannibal. While the movie is known for its over-the-top humor, Rogen admits the reality on set didn’t match what Watson had signed up for.

“The scene was not what was originally scripted, it was getting improvised, changed drastically and was not what she agreed to,” Rogen explained.

The director noted that because the scene was evolving so quickly, Watson was put in an “uncomfortable position.” Rather than being “uncool,” Rogen says he was actually “impressed” that she had the courage to speak up for her boundaries.

“It must have been hard for her to say something and I’m very happy and impressed that she did,” he shared. “We agreed on her not being in the scene together.”

The rumors of a rift have floated around the internet for years, originating from an anonymous Tumblr post shortly after the film’s release. However, the speculation reached a fever pitch this week following Rogen’s recent interview with British GQ.

In that interview, Rogen was asked point-blank about the incident. While his initial comments were a bit vague, he insisted there were “no hard feelings.”

“I don’t look back on that and think, ‘How dare she do that?’ You know?” he told the magazine. “I think sometimes when you read something, when it comes to life it doesn’t seem to be what you thought it was.”

Rogen further clarified that the exit was not a “terrible ending” to their professional relationship. In fact, Watson stayed in touch and even helped promote the film ahead of its release.

Still, seeing the headlines spin out of control prompted Rogen to post his late-night clarification. He expressed regret over how the situation was handled at the time, stating, “I for sure should have communicated better and because I didn’t, she was put in an uncomfortable position.”

Fans on social media have rallied behind the director’s honesty, with the post garnering nearly , likes in less than hours. Many praised Rogen for protecting a female colleague from an unfair “diva” narrative.

“I was thrilled for the opportunity to work with her and would be thrilled to get that opportunity again,” Rogen concluded his note. “I’m very sorry and disappointed that it happened, and I wish I had done more to prevent it.”

It seems there is nothing but love between these two stars. With the record officially straight, fans can go back to enjoying the comedy classic without the behind-the-scenes drama.
